When 18^th – century scientists first came across Australia’s platypus（鸭嘴兽）, they thought it was a trick. It is not surprising that the platypus had people confused. This funny-looking animal has feet and is a kind of warm-blooded mammal（哺乳动物）.

While other mammals usually keep their blood at around 37 degrees, the platypuses has a lower body temperature of 32 degrees. As to its appearance, the platypus' mouth is not really like the duck’s; its mouth actually looks a bit softer. The platypus closes its eyes when swimming instead of watching its hunters. Strangest of all, the platypus is a mammal that lays eggs. Ant there is only one other kind of mammal that can lay eggs, the echidna (針鼴鼠) of Australia. Both the platypus and the echidna lay soft-shelled eggs, and both feed their young with their own milk that comes out of their skin. These animals also walk in a way that is similar to crocodiles（鳄鱼）, with legs on the sides of their bodies rather than under them.

Though pretty in a special way, the platypus is actually one of the few mammals that are poisonous. A male platypus has knife - like bones on its back legs which have enough poison to kill a dog. Some people who like to eat very hot chili peppers（辣椒）say that they can help you breathe better if you have a cold. Others believe that chilies give you energy.

Do you want to fire up your meals with homegrown chilies? They need a warm climate. If you plant the seeds outside when the weather is cool, place them under glass, giving them the warmth of the sun and protectin them from the wind. You can also start the seeds in your home or a greenhouse.

If you’re planting inside, fill a 7.5 - centimeter pot with soil. The pot should have holes in the bottom so water can run out. Tap the sides of the pot to settle the soil.

Drop several seeds over the surface of the pot and cover with a thin layer of vermiculite（蛭石）, which can hold air, water and nutrients. Then cover the pot with a see-through plastic bag and place it in a warm area.

When the chilies start growing, take off the bag. When the plants have gown to about two centimeters, place each one carefully in its own 7.5- centimeter pot.

Every day, all across the nation, as many as one in four children refuse to go to school. The reasons are various. “School Refusal,” formerly known as “School Phobia”, is an actual anxiety-based disorder. Many children are vague about their complaints and unable to be sure what is making them anxious, so it is sometimes regarded as typical childhood will fullness. However, the effects of constant school refusal can be far-reaching for your child's education.

So, where's the line between what's normal and what's not? "You need to look at whether it is affecting the child or family's normal life," explains Christopher Kearney, Ph.D. In other words, if a child's grades are suffering from frequent absences or a parent’s job is disturbed, it is time to look closely at the issue. Parents should listen carefully to children who say they can't go to school because of "untestable things" such as stomachaches or headaches. While these complaints alone don't necessarily indicate school refusal, there may be deeper problems if combined with general complaints about school, talks of threats at school and so on.

There are different kinds of behavior in school refusal. Some children are influenced by their friends who skip school to hang out with their friends, showing a sense of rebellion（叛逆）. Some children cling to their mother’s, screaming at the thought of having to enter the school building.

However, that doesn’t mean that getting a child back into the classroom is impossible. Do They Have to Say Thanks?

Do they have to say thanks? Some people say yes. They think when others donate money to us, we should be thankful. After all, it’s not others’ duty to help us. Besides, if people continue helping the five students, they will take it for granted. As a result, they will become selfish.

Others, however, think the students should not. They think saying “thanks” in words is not the only way to show appreciation. Studying hard and doing something in return for society in the future is the best way to show their thanks. On the other hand, helping others is a kind of happiness.

In my opinion, maybe some students are not good at expressing their feelings. But when getting help, they should say “Thank you”.
