Her mother cannot help worrying about her: what if she falls in love, which is too early for a girl of her age. After all she is reaching the “dangerous stage”. These thoughts have caused trouble in the mother’s mind.

One weekend the girl came to tell her mother that she was going to the cinema with her schoolmate and would return late. This was the first time her mother agreed, and she couldn’t help worrying because her daughter had never been away at night before. The mother waited till nine and her uneasiness got the upper hand over her .She decided to go out to meet her daughter. Just at that moment the noise of a car pulling up drew her to the window and ------there was her daughter, waving goodbye to a boy .Her heart missed a beat .When the girl came in ,the mother was watching TV, pretending nothing had happened. ” Mum I’m back.” “yeah.” “Sorry to be late. Still sitting up?” “Yes, Oh, that…Who’s that boy?” The daughter was stunned for a moment . “Ah. It’s my monitor. He gave me a lift on his way home, Mum ,I’m going to bed .” “All right. Go to sleep early.”

Next morning when the mother went to the daughter’s room to do some tidying, she found her diary left at her pillow. As a kid, I can remember going to the supermarket and grabbing eggs off the shelf. I would run them home to my mother because they were usually going into a delicious cake. Times have changed. Cage - free? Organic? Brown? White? Omega-3s? Help! Here are some tips to help you figure out which eggs you should choose:

●Brown or white? In fact, color is simply a sign of the breed of hen. Find the freshest egg with the most flavor and let color be a secondary concern.

●Extra Omega-3s? Omega-3 eggs come from a hen whose diet has added flaxseed (亚麻籽), which produces an egg containing an average of 225 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E. The countless health benefits for humans make these eggs an attractive purchase. My opinion? Eat a piece of fresh fish and get a pure dose of Omega-3s. Let eggs be eggs.

●Does your egg need exercise? Free - range eggs are from hens raised without the confines(限制)of a cage, though they may or may not have spent much time outdoors. Organic eggs are from hens whose feed must meet organic standards. These hens must be raised humanely, and they must be given time to stay outdoors. Hey, happier hens do lay tastier eggs.

●Does local make a difference? Nothing is better than local eggs. They may have a feather or two stuck to them or a slightly imperfect shape and they may or may not be certified(证明) organic; however, they have one quality I prize: I know exactly where my food came from and how it came to be! In some cases I can even ask the farmer when the eggs were laid and what the hens were fed.

45.What does the author think of Omega – 3 eggs?

A.They are a good choice for people to purchase.

B.They contain fewer Omega – 3 s than fresh fish.

C.They have the highest content of pure Omega – 3 s.

D.They are not the best source of Omega – 3 s.

46.The underlined part “free – range” probably means “ ”.

A.wild B.cage – free C.special D.Omega – 3 - free

47.According to the passage, which of the following has nothing to do with an egg’s quality?

A.The egg’s color. B.The hen’s exercise.

C.The hen’s living conditions. D.The hen’s food.

48.This passage is most probably taken from a book named .

A.Shopping Skills B.Eggs and Cooking

C.Raising Hens D.Healthy Diet

When 18th – century scientists first came across Australia’s platypus(鸭嘴兽), they thought it was a trick. It is not surprising that the platypus had people confused. This funny-looking animal has feet and is a kind of warm-blooded mammal(哺乳动物).

While other mammals usually keep their blood at around 37 degrees, the platypuses has a lower body temperature of 32 degrees. As to its appearance, the platypus' mouth is not really like the duck’s; its mouth actually looks a bit softer. The platypus closes its eyes when swimming instead of watching its hunters. It uses its mouth to pick up outside information made by the creatures underwater.

Strangest of all, the platypus is a mammal that lays eggs. Ant there is only one other kind of mammal that can lay eggs, the echidna (針鼴鼠) of Australia. Both the platypus and the echidna lay soft-shelled eggs, and both feed their young with their own milk that comes out of their skin. These animals also walk in a way that is similar to crocodiles(鳄鱼), with legs on the sides of their bodies rather than under them.

Though pretty in a special way, the platypus is actually one of the few mammals that are poisonous. A male platypus has knife - like bones on its back legs which have enough poison to kill a dog. The platypus has the honor of being one of the oldest mammals in the world. Until the early 20th – century, it was hunted for its fur, but it is now protected. Do you want to fire up your meals with homegrown chilies? They need a warm climate. If you plant the seeds outside when the weather is cool, place them under glass, giving them the warmth of the sun and protectin them from the wind. You can also start the seeds in your home or a greenhouse.

If you’re planting inside, fill a 7.5 - centimeter pot with soil. The pot should have holes in the bottom so water can run out. Tap the sides of the pot to settle the soil.

Drop several seeds over the surface of the pot and cover with a thin layer of vermiculite(蛭石), which can hold air, water and nutrients. Then cover the pot with a see-through plastic bag and place it in a warm area.

When the chilies start growing, take off the bag. When the plants have gown to about two centimeters, place each one carefully in its own 7.5- centimeter pot.

When roots start slowing through the holes in the bottom of the pot, transplant each of them into a 12 - centimeter pot. When the plants are twenty centimeters high, tie the plants to a stick placed in the pot to support them.

At thirty centimeters high, pinch off the tops of the chili peppers with your fingers to make new branches grow. When the first flowers show, give the plants some potash(碳酸钾)fertilizer. And if the weather is warm, put them into five – liter pots and place them outside. Make sure they get lots of light and water.

Every day, all across the nation, as many as one in four children refuse to go to school. The reasons are various. “School Refusal,” formerly known as “School Phobia”, is an actual anxiety-based disorder. Many children are vague about their complaints and unable to be sure what is making them anxious, so it is sometimes regarded as typical childhood will fullness. However, the effects of constant school refusal can be far-reaching for your child's education.

So, where's the line between what's normal and what's not? "You need to look at whether it is affecting the child or family's normal life," explains Christopher Kearney, Ph.D. In other words, if a child's grades are suffering from frequent absences or a parent’s job is disturbed, it is time to look closely at the issue. Parents should listen carefully to children who say they can't go to school because of "untestable things" such as stomachaches or headaches. While these complaints alone don't necessarily indicate school refusal, there may be deeper problems if combined with general complaints about school, talks of threats at school and so on.

There are different kinds of behavior in school refusal. Some children are influenced by their friends who skip school to hang out with their friends, showing a sense of rebellion(叛逆). Some children cling to their mother’s, screaming at the thought of having to enter the school building.

However, that doesn’t mean that getting a child back into the classroom is impossible. According to Maryann Roth, a school psychologist and guidance counselor(顾问), parents should attempt to make the child get back to school, no matter how hard it is. Working closely with school officials and possibly a specialist to create a plan is a necessary step.

57.The underlined word “vague” (Paragraph 1) is closest in meaning to .

A.irregular B.unclear C.curious D.unusual

58.According to Paragraph 2, the real reason of “School Refusal” may be that the children .

A.are suffering from illness B.are afraid of endless tests

C.want to stay with their parents D.feel bored and unsafe at school

59.When facing “School Refusal” of their children, parents should .

A.take the problem seriously if their daily life is disturbed

B.discuss the seriousness of the problem with their children

C.take their children to see the doctor immediately

D.keep their children away from their rebellious friends

60.The passage intends to .

A.explain that “School Refusal” is a symptom of an illness

B.explain the phenomenon of “School Refusal” and how to treat it

C.remind parents to take good care of their children

D.explain that “Scholl Refusal” is normal and not serious

第二节:书面表达(满分30分)

Do They Have to Say Thanks?

Do they have to say thanks? Some people say yes. They think when others donate money to us, we should be thankful. After all, it’s not others’ duty to help us. Besides, if people continue helping the five students, they will take it for granted. As a result, they will become selfish.

Others, however, think the students should not. They think saying “thanks” in words is not the only way to show appreciation. Studying hard and doing something in return for society in the future is the best way to show their thanks. On the other hand, helping others is a kind of happiness.

In my opinion, maybe some students are not good at expressing their feelings. But when getting help, they should say “Thank you”.
